The Horn, Cresta Valley & Dingo Dell — The Horn summit walk

The Horn is short, not trivial
Parks Victoria’s visitor guide lists The Horn as 500 m / 20 minutes one way, Grade 3, to 1,723 m. That is a steep, rocky climb past granite boulders to a summit lookout — not a boardwalk. Exposure, wind and ice are the real hazards, not kilometres.
The entire outing depends on Horn Road being open. If it is closed, do not treat a winter walk along the closed road plus the summit as a casual add-on unless you planned a proper alpine day.
Winter: snowplay, not Falls Creek
Cresta Valley and Dingo Dell are the family snowplay and toboggan nodes. Marked cross-country trails and snowshoeing exist; there is no lift-served downhill. A café often operates at Dingo Dell in winter — confirm hours on the official page.
Snow chains must be carried on all days indicated by entrance-station signage, for every vehicle class including 4WD, and fitted when and where signs say. Penalties apply. Check VicRoads and Parks Victoria for live road status.
